• The Slovak Chess Composition Organization (SOKŠ) has announced a tourney for neo-strategic twomovers to mark the 70th birthday of Juraj Brabec (born 26th May 1938). Compositions should display at least three phase change play of Brabec type (two thematical moves, i.e. defences or mates of one phase are separated one by one to other phases, e.g. a A b B - a C (D,B) - b C(D,A) or a A b B - c (d,b) A - c (d,a) B or a A b B - a C (B) - c (a) B). Any extension to other variations, phases and themes is permitted. There are two sections of the tourney: a) orthodox compositions, b) fairy compositions with any fairy units or/and fairy conditions.

• "Rabočij kraj" newspaper and Commission for Chess Composition of Ivanovo region, with participation of Rodniki regional committee for sports and Ivanovo regional organization for disabled, announce the international tourney for composing two-mover problems, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Ivanovo master of sports and chess composition, champion of Ivanovo region, twice 3rd price winner of Moscow Open, winner of oblast, regional and international tourneys Boris Grigorevič Maslov.
  The tourney has two sections.
• Section 1: 2# - theme free
• Section 2: 2# - with theme:"Key moves or threats and refutations in tries, defenses and mates in the solution are on the same square. Key moves and threats may be combined. At least two variants with all the thematic components present".

  Both tourneys will have prizes, honorable mentions and commendations. Miniatures will also be rewarded.
  The results shall be published in "Rabočij kraj" in 2008. Russian participants willing to have the results mailed back to them must enclose a blank envelope.

• On the occasion of the 80 th birthday of IGM Pal Benko on July 14 th 2008 the magazine Magyar Sakkvilag organizes an international formal thematic tourney to honour the excellent chess player and chess composer.
  Theme: Starting from the initial position of the play White and Black don’t capture any men in the main line during the first eight moves at least.

• h2# : - Theme: The white piece which will give mate is pinned in the initial position. In the course of the solution it is unpinned by white moves which, over the problem taken as a whole (twins or two solutions), show a Grimshaw. The mates are achieved with the help of a further black Grimshaw, as in the example given.

• According to the mottoes „De mortuis nihil nisi bene“ all composers of endgame studies are appealed for a participation in the composition of such studies that are based on ideas of games played by Bobby Fischer. His 955 games can be requested as pgn-file by email at the organizer Gerhard Josten, nc-jostenge@netcologne.de . Alternatively the 60 games of Bobby´s book „My 60 Memorable Games“ can be ordered as pgn-file as well. There will be neither a judge nor awards, but all correct entries will be published in a brochure to be handed over to all participants after the conclusion. This brochure is entitled „Studies in memoriam Bobby Fischer“ and will contain no words on the personality of Bobby Fischer, but only show the submitted studies and the corresponding games. The studies have to be submitted by email.
  The authors have to send two pgn-files to the organizer: A first one with the endgame study and a second one with the marking of the game and the corresponding position, from where the study has been developped (see example). The closing date is reached after the submission of the 60th study or at least on January 17, 2009. Multiple entries are allowed. On the website, www.mynetcologne.de/~nc-jostenge/Bobby.htm , all authors are named continuously and in chronological order.
